Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus Tuesday backed Donald Trump's call for a special prosecutor to investigate Hillary Clinton in the email scandal.
"Donald Trump is right to call for a special prosecutor that can be trusted to get to the bottom of this matter," Priebus said in a conference call with reporters, according to The Washington Times.
"Hillary Clinton has exhibited a pattern of deception and blatant disregard for State Department ethics guidelines — and it’s just a precursor of how she will conduct herself in the White House if elected president."
Trump on Monday demanded an independent investigation of Clinton's actions because he believed that the Justice Department has a bias toward the Democratic nominee.
"After the FBI and Department of Justice's whitewash of the Clinton email crimes, they certainly cannot be trusted to quickly or impartially investigate Hillary Clinton's new crimes, which happen all the time," Trump told supporters in Akron, Ohio.
He also said that the decision by the Clinton Foundation to no longer accept foreign and corporate donations if he former secretary of state is elected president did not go far enough.
Former President Bill Clinton said Monday that he and the organization's board were "considering a range of options to ensure that its vital work will continue and will announce details soon."
Clinton has also said that he would step down from the foundation and stop raising money for the organization should his wife win in November.
Trump's call came after Judicial Watch released emails on Monday showing how Clinton Foundation donors — ranging from Middle Eastern royalty to international sports and music stars — obtained access to the secretary of state during her four years as the nation's top diplomat.
Priebus said Tuesday that these actions should have occurred when Clinton was secretary of state or during her two presidential runs.
"All of this — foreign government cash without restrictions, donations for favors, failures of disclosure — were all apparently OK not long ago, but now problematic moving forward," Priebus said, according to the Times. "It just goes to show that Hillary Clinton’s conscience only kicks in when people start asking questions."
