Sen. Blumenthal: No Timeline for Conclusion of Russia Probe

CNN

Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal, who serves on the Senate Judiciary Committee, one of the panels that is probing Russian meddling in the U.S. election, said he would prefer that the probe would be over soon, but he did not give a timeline for when it would conclude.

"My hope is that it would be done sooner rather than later," Blumenthal said Thursday on CNN's "New Day," according to The Daily Caller.

The senator said he did not want the Democrats' investigation to conflict with special counsel Robert Mueller's.

"We want to make sure that there's no kind of inconsistency or contradiction with the special counsel campaign or investigation. And that's why this de-conflicting is important," he said.

Blumenthal said at another point in the interview that both parties are working on legislation to protect special counsel Robert Mueller.

"The special counsel needs to be protected from any political interference … right now our fear is that the president would seek to fire Robert Mueller," Blumenthal said on "New Day."
