Senate Staffers to Begin Writing Healthcare Bill

Staff members of several senators will begin writing the Senate's version of the GOP's healthcare bill next week, one lawmaker said.

According to the Washington Examiner, Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., told the media on Capitol Hill Thursday the Senate's version of the American Health Care Act will start to take shape next week when lawmakers are on recess.

The plan, reports the Examiner, is to have a working version of the bill for senators to look at when they meet in various committees.

The Republican-controlled House passed the AHCA earlier this month. The Senate, which also has a Republican majority, vowed to make changes to it before putting it up for a full vote.

The Congressional Budget Office announced this week the AHCA would result in an estimated 23 million Americans losing healthcare coverage. It would, however, result in the deficit falling $119 billion between 2017 and 2026.
