The Republican healthcare plan remains a few votes short of passing, putting doubt on the likelihood of passing the bill this week, according to Rep. Steve King.

The Iowa Republican said on CNN's "New Day" Wednesday that a vote on healthcare this week is a "complete toss of the coin," according to The Hill.

He added that the GOP is "four to six votes short of what they need to go on the floor. And I don't know how soft some of those votes that are sitting on the balance are, but that's my prediction. It's just going to be a toss of the coin on whether they will or whether they won't."

King also said that last week he became "undecided" on the bill.

It's a result of these negotiations that have to do with the essential health benefits that throws us back into the lap of the 50 states for them to fight over what they want to do," he said.

"They have the full authority to pass any legislation to overwrite any mandates into health insurance that they like, so there's no reason for the federal government to stay in the health insurance business."

The lack of support among Republicans for the party healthcare plan prompted last-minute changes to the bill, according to Politico. Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., is expected to introduce the bill. Upton, a senior Republican who's drafted multiple bills to repeal Obamacare, said Tuesday that he would not support the GOP bill citing concerns about coverage for pre-existing conditions.
