President Donald Trump will not definitively say if he backs chief strategist Steve Bannon in his White House brawl with senior adviser – and Trump son-in-law – Jared Kushner, according to the New York Post.

Post columnist Michael Goodwin reportedly asked Trump if he still had confidence in Bannon amid the reports of infighting – and "did not get a definitive 'yes.'"

"I like Steve, but you have to remember he was not involved in my campaign until very late," Trump said, Goodwin reported. "I had already beaten all the senators and all the governors, and I didn't know Steve. I'm my own strategist, and it wasn't like I was going to change strategies because I was facing crooked Hillary."

Bannon allies tell Newsmax that he has never claimed to have won the election for the president and has always credited Trump alone for his upset victory over Hillary Clinton. They say the false claim was made up by Joe Scarborough who has been using his "Morning Joe" show to pressure Trump to fire Bannon.

Trump ended his remarks by saying he has had it with the infighting.

"Steve is a good guy, but I told them to straighten it out or I will," he told Goodwin.
