Cotton: Trump Isn't Vetting Me for VP

Republican Sen. Tom Cotton said Wednesday he is not undergoing any vetting from Donald Trump's campaign, and he does not expect that he'll be picked as the presumptive GOP nominee's running mate.

"I'm proud and happy to be serving the people of Arkansas in the Senate and I look forward to continue to serve them and make our country more safer and prosperous, and have the time to be a good husband and good dad for my 14-month-old son," the Arkansas Republican told "CBS This Morning."

Last month, Trump told radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt that Cotton and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie are "high on the list" of his potential vice-presidential picks, but Cotton said Wednesday that he was not "going to speculate on hypotheticals" when asked if he'd consider a spot if Trump asks.

"I don't believe that will happen, though," Cotton said.

Cotton earlier this week fell short of endorsing Trump during an interview with NBC's Chuck Todd, but bristled when the "Meet the Press" host told him his support of Trump did not sound enthusiastic.

"Donald Trump can ultimately make the case for himself," Cotton said, when Todd asked him to defend the New Yorker. "Donald Trump, like most Americans, like most Republicans, believes in protecting America's core national interests."
