President Donald Trump on Thursday again teased the idea of a third term in the White House in 2028.
His passing remarks came during one of the National Prayer Breakfast events on Thursday. He began by saying he eschewed joining the prayer breakfast by Skype in order to be at the Washington Hilton in person, according to a clip posted on Mediaite.
"But no, I want to be here with you. And I have been here with you. And I do that despite the fact that they say I can't run again. That's the expression: 'Sir?'" Trump said, adding, "Then somebody said, 'I don't think you can.' Oooh! No, I want to be with you regardless. And it's an honor."
Trump said last month that he's "not 100% sure" he was barred from running again under the Constitution.
"I've raised a lot of money for the next race that I assume I can't use for myself, but I'm not 100% sure, because I don't know … I think I'm not allowed to run again," Trump told an audience of Congressional Republicans in Miami.
Trump also joked about a third term one week after winning the Nov. 5 election.
"I suspect I won't be running again, unless you say, 'He's so good, we've got to figure something else," Trump said in remarks to House Republicans in a downtown Washington, D.C., hotel, drawing laughter from some supporters.
The 22nd Amendment, passed in 1951, prohibits a person from serving more than two terms as president.
"No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once," the amendment states.
