President Donald Trump vowed to "do everything in my power" to "ensure that the forces of evil never again defeat the powers of good" in a statement Friday on International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

"Together, we will make love and tolerance prevalent throughout the world," President Trump's statement concluded.

The United Nations designated Jan. 27, the date of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, a German concentration camp in Poland during World War II, as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

"The U.N. urges every member state to honor the victims of the Nazi era and to develop educational programs to help prevent future genocides," according to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.

"Join the conversation and share your reflections about International Holocaust Remembrance Day on social media using #HolocaustRemembrance."

President Trump's full statement:

"It is with a heavy heart and somber mind that we remember and honor the victims, survivors, heroes of the Holocaust. It is impossible to fully fathom the depravity and horror inflicted on innocent people by Nazi terror.

"Yet, we know that in the darkest hours of humanity, light shines the brightest. As we remember those who died, we are deeply grateful to those who risked their lives to save the innocent.

"In the name of the perished, I pledge to do everything in my power throughout my Presidency, and my life, to ensure that the forces of evil never again defeat the powers of good. Together, we will make love and tolerance prevalent throughout the world."

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., added "the pain inflicted upon the Jewish people can never be forgotten," in a statement of his own.

"Today, the world remembers the millions of innocent men, women, and children who suffered the brutality of the Holocaust," the statement read. "The pain inflicted upon the Jewish people can never be forgotten. And so, today, we join together in recognition of the continued existence of evil in this world, and we again remember our responsibility as free people to protect and defend the innocent and the suffering."
