Trump Blasts Obama for New Gun Restrictions

Trump Blasts Obama for New Gun Restrictions

Saturday, 02 January 2016 04:34 PM EST

Donald Trump is blasting President Barack Obama for trying to tinker with the Second Amendment with plans to issue a gun order tightening firearms' restrictions.

In an interview set to air Sunday on CBS News' "Face the Nation," the GOP front-running presidential candidate said there's no need to do anything to bolster gun controls.

CBS News aired a clip of the interview Saturday on its website.

"I don't like it," Trump tells "Face the Nation" moderator John Dickerson about Obama's expected plan to expand background checks. "I don't like anything having to do with changing our Second Amendment. We have plenty of rules and regulations."

"We have a tremendous mental health problems," he adds.

"We are closing places all over the world, all over the country they are closing – but they are closing all over the world. Tremendous mental health problems - nobody is doing anything about that."

"All they want to do is blame the guns, and it's not the gun that pulls the trigger, so I don't like it," Trump says. "I don't like what he is doing."

Obama is due to meet with Attorney General Loretta Lynch on Monday to talk about options for tightening regulations — including expanding background checks for firearms sold at gun shows, closing the so-called gun show loophole.

"There's plenty of things that they can do right now that are already there," Trump insists. "They don't do them."
