Trump's Case For Voter Fraud Cited Misinterpreted Data

President-elect Donald Trump's transition team said Monday there is evidence that voter fraud existed in the election, but the evidence it cited says otherwise.

According to USA Today, spokesman Jason Miller said on a media conference call the evidence behind Trump's claim over the weekend that millions of people voted illegally lies in a Pew Charitable Trusts study mentioned in a 2014 Washington Post article. 

The study's author, however, responded on Twitter and said the figures in the Post report had been misrepresented.

As primary author of the report the Trump camp cited today, I can confirm that report made no findings re: voter fraud. /1

We found millions of out of date registration records due to people moving or dying, but found no evidence that voter fraud resulted.

Jill Stein of the Green Party is challenging the results of the election in at least one state,  and Democrat Hillary Clinton has gotten behind the effort. Critics, however, don't see how the recount will change the fact that Trump won the election — despite coming short to Clinton in the popular vote.
