Alabama Republican Roy Moore and Democrat Doug Jones are now virtually tied in their Senate race, a new Decision Desk HQ and Opinion Savvy poll reveals.

The survey was conducted Thursday following a report in The Washington Post, where a woman claimed Moore had inappropriate sexual contact with her when she was 14 and he was 32.

Here is how the survey breaks down:

  • 46.4 percent favor Moore
  • 46 percent back Jones
  • 3.7 percent are listed as undecided
  • 54 percent say Moore should not quit the race

"Looking at the tabs, Moore has lost a significant portion of the female vote, compared to our poll from late September. Support for Moore among this demographic has decreased from 46 percent to 39 percent with an overall spread change of minus 14 percent," the pollster said in a report accompanying the results. Conversely, male support for Moore remains unchanged at roughly 55 percent.

"Moore has also seen a significant defection from his own party: just 69 percent of Republican voters said they intend to vote for Moore, a 10-point drop from late September."

However, when current Republican Sen. Luther Strange is listed as a write-in candidate, 43.6 percent favor Jones; 41.3 percent back Moore and 12.3 percent support Strange.

The new poll, conducted Thursday, surveyed 515 likely voters. It has a margin of error of 4.3 percentage points.
