FBI director James Comey was not happy with President Donald Trump and his Saturday tweets that accused the Obama administration of bugging his phones, with one media outlet reporting Comey was "incredulous" after reading what Trump wrote.
The FBI chief was concerned about the ramifications the claim – one he felt is false – against the bureau, according to CNN, citing someone familiar with the story.
"Comey felt that 'institutionally he has to push back on this,'" the source told CNN, adding he was "incredulous" over the allegations.
FBI officials, a group that did not include Comey himself, reached out to the Department of Justice over the weekend and asked them to deflate Trump's claim the former administration eavesdropped on conversations that took place in Trump Tower before last November's election. As of Monday afternoon, the DOJ has not complied with that request.
Rep. Pete King, R-N.Y., said Monday the House Intelligence Committee will look into Trump's claims.
"I'm on the Intelligence Committee and as part of our investigation, we'll cover the allegations by the president as to whether or not there was surveillance, and if there was a wiretap to Trump Tower," King said.
