Kerry Should Respect Israel's Defense Officials

By    |   Monday, 24 March 2014 01:27 PM EDT

Both Israel’s Defense Minister and Deputy Defense Minister are actively criticizing American involvement in the region.

Given the Obama administration's immense foreign policy failures, why must American allies be pressured now? Have not American interests been harmed enough in the world during the last few years? Has not the Ukraine, Syria, Iran, Egypt, and countless other countries taught these liberals a lesson yet?

There has never been a time when America has had worse foreign relations. Should not John Kerry accept that Israel knows and understands defense, and with all going on in the world, the Obama/Kerry duo should leave Israel alone.

Last week, Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon noted of American involvement in Israel, “It isn’t a favor America is doing, it’s in their interest. They get quality intelligence and technology.” As Ya’alon rightly noted, America has developed an image in the world of “feebleness.”

A few weeks ago, he quipped, “The American security plan that was presented to us is not worth the paper it was written on. It contains neither security nor peace. Only our continued presence in Judea and Samaria and the Jordan River will guarantee that Ben Gurion Airport and (the northern city of) Netanya do not become targets for missiles from every direction.

As Yediot Aharonot quoted him as saying, “In reality, there have been no negotiations between us and the Palestinians for all these months — but rather between us and the Americans.” “Secretary of State John Kerry — who came here very determined, and operates based upon an unfathomable obsession and a messianic feeling — cannot teach me anything about the Palestinians.”

Indeed, this administration’s foreign policy can best be defined as weakness.

The Deputy Defense Minister of Israel, Danny Danon, has vowed to quit the government if Palestinian terrorists are released as part of this “peace plan.” As Danon says, "The Palestinians took advantage, and not for the first time, of our desire for peace and naiveté, to trick us. They pretended to negotiate, and we released vile murderers."

He continued, saying Kerry’s plan is “dangerous and detached from reality.” “Israel will not split Jerusalem nor will it withdraw to the pre-1967 lines.”

Two of Israel’s most senior defense officials feel America needs to stop pressuring Israel. Stop pressuring Israel, and realize Israel is a tiny county in a very bad neighborhood.
