Amanda Bynes' was hospitalized for a mental evaluation Monday night in California. The troubled 27-year-old allegedly attempted to
start a fire in an elderly woman's driveway in Thousand Oaks, Calif., TMZ reported.
The incident appears to have been a random act of vandalism, considering the woman did not know Bynes and had never heard of her before.
In an interview with TMZ, the woman told the celebrity news source that she wasn't even aware of the fire until police knocked on her door and told her what was going on.
Witnesses reportedly saw Bynes carrying a small "red gas tank" in the vicinity of the driveway fire.
She reportedly set clothing on fire.

After questioning the former actress at the scene, police put Bynes on a 5150 hold for an involuntary psychiatric evaluation based on her responses, TMZ reported.
The 5150 code is instituted "when any person, as a result of mental disorder, is
a danger to others, or to himself or herself, or gravely disabled," cites Fox News.
"Amanda seems to be doing well," a source close to the former child star who saw her in the hospital told Fox News. "The thing with Amanda is that it isn't as bizarre as it seems. She knows when to pull it together and act normal."
Bynes‘ parents, Rick and Lynn, have yet to speak with their daughter since Monday's incident but are
in the process of obtaining a conservatorship over her, RadarOnline.com reported.
"Her parents are absolutely sick with worry about their daughter," a source told Radar.
"They are now considering going to a judge and attempting to get a conservatorship of Amanda," the source added. "They have previously met with lawyers to discuss the possibility of taking legal control of Amanda’s life. It’s a truly devastating situation for Amanda’s parents and their biggest concern is the health and safety of her."
Prior to the driveway fire, Bynes reportedly trespassed at a California retirement community on July 19 and had been thrown out of New York City's Ritz-Carlton Hotel for allegedly smoking weed in her room and bringing a staffer to tears after telling her she was "too ugly" to check her in.
Bynes remains hospitalized in Los Angeles until "doctors determine she is no longer a danger to herself, or others," the Radar source added.
