American Girl’s new doll is a boy, marking the first time a boy doll has been added to the company’s collection in its 31-year history.
American Girl, the maker of a popular line of 18-inch dolls, has unveiled its latest doll, a boy named Logan Everett, according to The New York Times.
The brand revealed the news on Tuesday of a boy doll with “boy-band brown hair, hipster T-shirt and dark-wash jeans,” according to the Times
The news doesn’t come as much of a surprise to those who have heard rumors about the brand’s first boy doll over the past year.
Julie Parks, American Girl’s director of public relations, told The Huffington Post that parents and children have wanted to see dolls with “more experiences, more diversity” and “more interests” for some time now.
“Adding a boy to our lineup has been a number one request for a very, very, very long time,” she added.
“We do an enormous amount of research with girls and their parents, and the one thing we’ve heard loud and clear is a desire for more – specifically more characters and stories from today…,” Parks said, according to Newsday.
The Everett doll will be accompanied by another upcoming doll, his friend Tenney Grant, a singer-songwriter who plays drums with Everett, The Huffington Post noted.
Parks said Everett will have “a compelling storyline within the series, and we believe many parents, girls and boys will be glad he joined the fold,” Newsday noted.
American Girl’s first boy doll will be available to consumers on Thursday.
