Alan Beiler, a reality star on "Amish Mafia," the Discovery Channel series, was sentenced Thursday to up to two years in prison in Pennsylvania after leading police on a high-speed chase last summer.

Perry County Judge Kevin A. Mummah told Beiler, 35, he was "lucky no one was killed" during the chase with state police on July 7, 2012, according to the Patriot-News

In May, Beiler pleaded guilty to eluding, drug possession and driving with a suspended license. Thirty-one other charges against him were dismissed.

Beiler led police on a chase after they tried to stop him for an expired car registration. Police say he drove against traffic and caused a state trooper to crash and suffer a concussion, according to The Associated Press.

The chase also resulted in five near collisions with other vehicles. During a search of Beiler's Jeep, troopers found a small amount of marijuana hashish; Carisoprodol, a skeletal muscle relaxant; oxycodone; and Alprazolam, an anti-anxiety drug, according to the Patriot-News.

Mummah said that Beiler was cleaning up his life, regularly reading to a local kindergarten class and helping with fund raisers for a township police department and the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape.

Beiler's attorney, Mark Forrest Walmer, told Mummah that Beiler has not used drugs in more than a year. Beiler added that the jail time was "the best thing that ever happened" to him because he started a court-ordered drug rehabilitation program.

"Amish Mafia" is a reality TV show that follows the men who protect and maintain peace and order within the Amish community in Lancaster.

"Some Amish in Lancaster County, PA have for many years regularly turned to a small organized group of men for protection and justice," according to the "Amish Mafia" series website. "Discovery's 'Amish Mafia' provides a first-ever look at the men who protect and maintain peace and order within the Amish community in Lancaster."
