Charges were filed against three girls in the death of Amy Inita Joyner-Francis, the Wilmington, Delaware, teen who was the victim of a beating reportedly planned by the three in the restroom of Howard High School last month. She died there on the floor of cardiac arrest.

Joyner-Francis, 16, suffered from a pre-existing heart condition, but it was exacerbated by the attack, authorities said on Monday, according to the News Journal.

Trinity Carr, 16, who is believed to be the only girl to hit Joyner-Francis, was charged with criminal negligent homicide and a Department of Justice release said she should be tried as an adult. She could get up to eight year years in prison for the death,

The other two girls at the scene, Zion Snow and Chakeira Wright, were charged with criminal conspiracy related to the fight. They could get up to year in prison and will be tried as juveniles in family court.

"The individuals responsible for Amy Joyner-Francis's death are minors, but they must be held accountable for their actions," said the Department of Justice. "DOJ's goal in making a charging decision was to ensure that those persons responsible for Amy's death are held responsible to the maximum degree permissible by Delaware law."

The News Journal said the fight was recorded and showed Carr using a closed fist to constantly hit Joyner-Francis in the head and torso. The video showed Carr leaving with Joyner-Francis appearing disoriented before collapsing on the floor. She went into cardiac arrest shortly after paramedics found her

Court documents said it appeared that the girls planned the assault in the 20 hours leading up to the fight, according to communication between them, said the newspaper.
