Amy Schumer’s cover shoot parody of “Star Wars” for GQ was denounced as “inappropriate” by both Disney and Lucasfilm on Thursday after the pictures became an online sensation last week.
Schumer, 34, is featured in the shoot as she dances provocatively with Stormtroopers, finds a new way to use a lightsaber, gets frisky with C-3PO, and hops topless into bed with both C-3PO and R2-D2 as she
smokes a cigarette, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Schumer’s racy and hyper-sexualized interactions with the beloved “Star Wars” characters provoked severe condemnation from incensed fans as they called the shoot
“lame,” “shameful,” and “distasteful,” according to the Daily Mail.
The outrage and disappointment prompted the official “Star Wars” Twitter account to tweet the following in response, suggesting that neither Disney nor Lucasfilm neither condoned nor had been aware of GQ’s intended use of the characters:
The full set of images was released in GQ’s comedy issue on Monday, which praised Schumer as the “funniest woman in the galaxy” and the “gutsiest comedian in America” in this “out-of-this-world” shoot, according to the Daily Mail. Die-hard “Star Wars” fans, however, staunchly disagreed with those assessments.
Schumer, an American comedian and actress, has been recently promoting her new film “Trainwreck,” which is a tale about a promiscuous woman who is intensely afraid of monogamy.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” also known as “Star Wars: Episode VII,” is set to hit theaters at the end of the year and is set roughly 30 years after the events of “Return of the Jedi” occurred. Stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher are set to reprise their roles of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia, respectively, as well as Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker as the droids C-3PO and R2-D2, respectively. This new film also comes more than 10 years after the release of "Episode III" in the reboot trilogy hit theaters.
