New Zealand has published a list of banned baby names, or names put forward by parents and rejected in an effort to protect the welfare of the children, the country claims.
The list of 77 names has been accumulated over the last 12 years and includes such monikers as "Lucifer," "Anal," and "4Real." One set of parents reportedly wanted to name their child "." or a period punctuation mark.
According to New Zealand's Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriages, names may be prohibited if they "cause offense to a reasonable person," are "unreasonably long" or "resemble an official title and rank."

But that's not the only country where baby names are monitored.
Sweden also has a naming law and has nixed attempts to name children "Superman," "Metallica," and "Brfxxccxxmnpcccclllmmnprxvclmnckssqlbb11116."
Four years ago, a 9-year-old girl was taken away from her parents in Hawaii so that her name could be changed from "Talula Does the Hula From Hawaii."
In 2008, an appeals court in New Mexico ruled against a man — named Variable — who wanted to change his name to "F— Censorship!"
In New Jersey, a child named "Adolf Hitler" was removed from his home in 2009 along with his sister "Aryan Nation."
Below is a complete list of names that have ended up on New Zealand's banned baby name registry since 2001, along with the number of times they've come up since:
