Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner announced this week that they are divorcing after 10 years of marriage, a lifetime in Hollywood years.

Affleck, a two-time Academy Award-winner, and Garner, who has starred in both television and movies, said in a joint statement that they will continue to work together as parents to their three children — 9-year-old Violet, 6-year-old Seraphina, and 3-year-old Samuel, Us Weekly reported.

"After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce," the couple said in their statement. "We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding."

While the couple was often spotted out with their children on carpool duty, going out for coffee, or attending after-school activities, their marriage has received much scrutiny over the last few years, according to People magazine.

Garner opened up about her relationship in an October InStyle interview, saying that she is "mindful" that it's no longer in the "courtship" phase.

"You can't expect to be courted all the time, and I don't want to court him right now — I don't have the energy," the actress said. "But we're definitely in a very mindful place where we're making an effort to be together, do things at the same time, and be loving. You can't resent your partner for working hard — it's just not fair."

The couple first met in 2001 during the shooting of "Pearl Harbor" and later costarred together in the 2003 movie "Daredevil." Affleck and Garner did not go public with their relationship until 2004 when they appeared together at the World Series when the Boston Red Sox played.

A source told E! Online that the pair has been in couple's therapy for the last two years and on a trial separation for the last 10 months.

"[They] have been living separate lives and preparing for this for a long time," the source said.

Affleck is slated to appear next year as Bruce Wayne in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," and has also been filming "Suicide Squad" in Toronto, according to Us Weekly.
