Ben Stein said President Barack Obama and his administration have repeatedly tried to make the elections about race, creating the specter of animus where there is none.
"What the White House is trying to do is racialize all politics and especially trying to tell the African-American voters that the GOP is against letting them have a chance at a good life in this economy, and that’s just a complete lie," Stein
told Fox News anchor Shannon Bream on Sunday's "America’s News HQ" show.
"The Republicans are every bit as much in favor of African-Americans having a good life, I'd say more in favor than the Democrats."
Stein argued that the GOP has been thoroughly demonized by the Democrats, yet it is the Democrats who've presided over a stagnant economy that's consistently seen record levels of unemployment and citizens on food stamps.
Concluding, the economist said, "It is all a way to racialize voting in this country. This president is the most racist president there has ever been in America. He is purposely trying to use race to divide Americans."
Several media outlets were quick to point out that many early presidents actually owned slaves, so it's unlikely Obama could be called the "most racist president" when compared with them. Few, if any, of the outlets disagreed with Stein's assessment, however, that the White House has repeatedly tried to racialize the elections.
