Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin "Bibi" Netanyahu’s dog bit two government dignitaries at a Hanukkah candle lighting held at his Jerusalem home this week, but luckily neither person was badly injured.
Netanyahu was embarrassed, witnesses told The Times of Israel, when his dog Kaia bit Sharren Haskel, a member of the Israeli Parliament, and attorney Or Alon, husband of the country's deputy foreign minister Tzipi Hotovely.
The prime minister took Haskel, a trained veterinary nurse, to a side room where on-duty paramedics bandaged her hand after the dog first bit her, according to The Times.
"To those asking about my welfare, as someone who was once a [professional] snake wrangler, a small bite from a dog doesn’t excite me," she joked in a Twitter post after the incident.
Alon was unware of the Haskel bite when he walked up to the dog and began to pet her, but Kaia bit him just before Netanyahu warned, "Get away from her, she bites."
The attorney was treated by the prime minister's on-site medical team as well, The Times of Israel noted.
The prime minister's son reportedly adopted
Kaia earlier this year, the Daily Mail reported. The animal is "a gentle and good-tempered dog who immediately blended into our family," Netanyahu posted on Facebook at the time.
Social media users shared a wide range of humorous responses to the incident.
