A Biblical "doomsday" will begin on Saturday and the world could be entering a seven-year "tribulation period" that would lead catastrophic earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tidal waves, numerologist and author David Meade was still insisting as the weekend approached.
Earlier in the week, Meade was reported saying a planet called Nibiru, or Planet X, was hurtling toward Earth and would destroy it. Now, it's just passing close by. The discrepancy in reporting is understandable since the news and social media don't have a lot of experience with the end of Earth.
Meade, who studied astronomy and economics at a Midwestern university and is a self-described specialist in research and investigations, made the prediction of seven years of bad luck on his website Planet X -- The 2017 Arrival, and Nibiru's passing will trigger the destruction, The Washington Post said.
"Various people are 'predicting' that world will end Sept. 23 when another planet collides with Earth," NASA said on Wednesday. "The planet in question, (Nibiru), doesn't exist, so there will be no collision."
Meade says Earth's encounter with Nibiru was prophesized in the Bible's Book of Revelations and people should prepare themselves.
"Preparedness for X involves not only the physical preparedness of stocking in groceries, water and supplies, but mental preparedness of having physically prepared knowing you stand a better chance of survival, as well as spiritual preparedness," Meade said.
"What is a clear conscience worth? And it is fascinating to know that virtually all of the cosmic and earth-changing events in the Book of Revelation are likely caused by the fly-by of Planet X."
He charged that the mainstream media has distorted and exaggerated his claims, falsely saying that he believes life on Earth would actually end this weekend, the Post reported.
"Planet X's passage could be the greatest catastrophic infliction of loss of life upon mankind, since Noah's Ark," Meade said. "Volcanoes all over the Earth will erupt along with multiple high magnitude earthquakes, tidal waves, and a meteor firestorm.”
"… At that time the gravitational attraction (by Planet X's fly-by) creates a stoppage of Earth's rotation, a restart with a quarter turn in one hour, a pole shift on earth, changing climate for many areas, tidal waves, many earthquakes of great magnitude, and much volcanism."
Time magazine said Meade has generated quite the buzz with his doomsday prediction, with "Nibiru" and "end of the world" searches on Google topping 1.27 million hits.
Some of the attention probably came from NASA updating is website on Wednesday about what was said about Nibiru back in 2012:
"… News flash: the world didn't end on Dec. 21, 2012. You've probably already figured that out for yourself. Despite reports of an ancient Maya prophecy, a mysterious planet on a collision course with Earth, or a reverse in Earth's rotation, we're still here."
Those people at NASA have attitude.
