New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman seems to have lost his patience with slugger Alex Rodriguez, ripping the third baseman for a tweet about his rehab, which appeared to catch the team's executive off guard. He bluntly said Rodriguez should shut up.

According to USA Today, Rodriguez tweeted Tuesday: "Visit from Dr. Kelly over the weekend, who gave me the best news – green light to play games again!"

That brought an angry response from Cashman later in the day on ESPN New York, USA Today wrote.

"You know what, when the Yankees want to announce something, (we will),” USA Today reported that Cashman told  ESPN New York. “Alex should just shut the (expletive) up. That’s it. I’m going to call Alex now."

Probably what angered Cashman the most, per USA Today, was that Rodriguez's tweet contradicted Cashman's interview with the sports network Monday, saying that Rodriguez was not prepared to play.

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi told Newsday earlier in the week that Rodriguez continued to rehab from hip surgery but had not be cleared to play in games.

"He's in [simulated] games until they decide that he's ready to go out on rehab," Girardi said to Newsday. "It's not yet. I'm sure as soon as he is, we'll let you know."

The murky status of Rodriguez appeared to have started Monday when the All-Star was quoted in a published report that he was cleared to play in next Monday for the Yankees' Class-A team in Tampa, according to Newsday.

Cashman, though, disputed the comments, saying to Newsday that the Yankees "have not set a timeline for him. He's getting close, but no one has talked to me about when."

To add to Rodriguez's complicated situation, Yankees president Randy Levine told Newsday Tuesday that Rodriguez's involvement in the Biogenesis investigation will be reviewed before adding him to the roster.

Major League Baseball announced earlier this month that Biogenesis clinic founder Anthony Bosch agreed to cooperate with them in its performance enhancing drug investigation against the clinic. Rodriguez and more than a dozen other players are allegedly connected to the clinic scandal, according to Fox Sports.
