Andre Agassi was prone to jealous rages during his marriage to Brooke Shields and even once smashed his tennis trophies during an argument, the actress reveals in her latest book.
In "There Was a Little Girl: The Real Story of My Mother and Me," Shields said Agassi became enraged when she filmed a scene for "Friends" in which she played a devoted soap-opera fan who licked actor
Matt LeBlanc’s hand, according to The Los Angeles Times.
Agassi reportedly watched the scene from a soundstage and then stormed out to drive home.
"Upon arrival he systematically smashed and destroyed every single trophy he had won, including Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, never mind all the others," Shields writes.
The now-retired tennis star told her at the time that she "made him look like a fool," according to the book, which is set to be published next week.
Agassi and Shields were married from 1997 to 1999.
In a 2012 appearance on "Today" show, Shields said her divorce from Agassi was relatively quick and easy, but she did have one caveat.
"It's a very interesting thing because he — quote, unquote — did say to me, 'Be happy that we don't have children or I would not have made this easy for you.' And therein lies why
I'm not there anymore," Shields said, according to Us Weekly.
Agassi also once addressed their relationship on "Today."
"I think at that time in my life I couldn't be married to anyone. I think timing is really important. You need in a marriage, two people who understand themselves . . . and I certainly didn't understand myself," he said in a 2009 appearance.
