A surfer was bitten in the hip by a juvenile great white shark between 8 and 10 feet long at California beach on Sunday, but survived the attack.
The Associated Press reported Supervising State Park Ranger Robert Colligan as saying the man in his 50s sustained minor injuries and was able to paddle himself to shore.
The 11:30 a.m. attack happened at Sand Spit beach in the Montana De Oro State Park west of San Luis Obispo.
Colligan said the man was one of several surfers in the water.
Responders from multiple agencies responded.
Colligan said witnesses estimated the shark's length.
He said the shark bit the man on his right hip and the man was flown to a local hospital for treatment.
Colligan said the beach was not closed, but signs were posted warning the public of the attack.
