Rumors of a
pregnant Casey Anthony began circulating online Thursday after several mainstream news sources cited a nearly 2-year-old report from The National Enquirer. In that report, the magazine said Anthony told a friend that she was "having a baby, in the belief that that may save her from the death penalty."
Only problem is, Anthony is no long facing murder charges in connection with the death of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee, having been acquitted on July 5, 2011, the very day The National Enquirer article was posted.

Local NBC and Fox affiliates as well as
The Latin Times and Britain's
The Daily Mail cite the piece as if it were a breaking news story.
Both NBC affiliate
WPTV and Fox's
WFLX link to the 2011 National Enquirer story. The Daily Mail does not link to the article, but cites it in its second paragraph.
Once the story began trending, other outlets began citing the reports, failing to note that the original source was two years old.
Under the headline "Report — Casey Anthony is pregnant and 'thrilled' to prove she's a good mom," WBDO.com refers to the Daily Mail story. The Caylee Daily, a site dedicated to following the case, reports the story citing WPTV.
The latest National Enquirer article on Casey Anthony is a March 4 piece on her bankruptcy hearing entitled "Casey Anthony Emerges From Hiding."
