Chicago weekend shootings totaled over 50 in a roughly 48-hour period, from Friday afternoon to early Monday.

"The tally included a 3 1/2-hour period early Saturday when one man was killed and 14 others were wounded — the equivalent of someone being shot every 14 minutes," The Chicago Tribune reported.

The Mother's Day weekend pushed Chicago's homicides to nearly 200 so far this year, putting 2016 on pace for it to be one of its most deadliest years since the 1990s.

In one incident Saturday, Andres Rivera, 58, was shot in the head while sitting at his kitchen table in the 5200 block of S. Kolin after someone outside his home fired a shot that went through his front door, authorities told WMAQ-TV.

Authorities told the television station that they did not believe Rivera, who was pronounced dead around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, was the intended target of the shooting.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported that at least eight people were killed in the shootings, including Nathan Hicks, 16.

Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office told the Sun-Times that Hicks was found in the street about 3:20 p.m. Sunday in the 3400 block of West Arthington with several gunshot wounds.

The teenager was taken to Stroger Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead at 4 p.m.

In an earlier incident Sunday, Deshawn Thompson, 20, died after he was shot along with a 19-year-old woman while sitting on a porch in the 200 block of S. Karlov. Authorities said someone walked up to them at the home and opened fire. Thompson subsequently died at Mount Sinai Hospital. The woman was listed in good condition.

The Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday that the city recorded its 1,000 shooting victim for the year on April 20, a statistic that was not reached until July 4 in 2015. The Tribune reported that 196 people have died in those shootings as of Sunday, an increase of 55 percent from the 126 victims recorded at the same time last year.
