Chipper Jones Joke on Alligators Chasing Immigrants Strikes Out

By    |   Tuesday, 11 June 2013 08:13 AM EDT

Retired Atlanta Braves star Chipper Jones found himself in hot water over the weekend after making a Twitter joke about using alligators to chase illegal immigrants away from the border.

Offended Twitter users immediately launched a counterattack on Jones.

Jones apologized for his "attempt at humor" a day later.

But even that drew criticism.

Jones, who played his entire 19 seasons with the Braves, retired last year.
