Actor Christoph Waltz may play the villain to good guy Daniel Craig’s James Bond in the 24th movie, an entertainment columnist shared online Thursday.
The single tweet by Daily Mail columnist Baz Bamigboye set off a firestorm of comments about everything Bond and Waltz’s abilities. Many sites were still reporting that the news was unconfirmed.
Waltz is a two-time Oscar winner, whose most recent movie, “Big Eyes,” will be in theaters Dec. 25.
Bamigboye reported in the Daily Mail that Waltz will play a “significant” role in the movie, which doesn’t have a title yet.
“However, I am told that the part is a complex one,” the columnist wrote. "'It’s not immediately evident whether the part’s friend, or foe, or a bit of both,' a person who has knowledge of the screenplay told me."
But even Bamigboye admitted that someone else, whom he called a Bond 24 “spook,” said, “Not so fast ... just because he has played bad guys in other movies doesn’t mean he’s going to be the baddie here.”
Bamigboye called the statement a “clear bit of misdirection,” and said it was his understanding that Craig had already met with Waltz.
