David Gregory, the recently ousted host of “Meet the Press,” is writing a book about his Jewish faith and spiritual journeys people take during their lives,
Politico’s Playbook reports.
The book won’t be about Gregory’s career, Politico said, which took a sharp turn last week when, without any fanfare or announcements, Gregory announced Thursday he would leave; the Sunday show was hosted by NBC’s Andrea Mitchell. Low ratings had fueled speculation for some time that Gregory would leave the show.

Jonathan Karp, president and publisher of Simon & Schuster Publishing Group, told Politico that he and Gregory discussed the book and have been working together on it since 2011.
“David is a natural storyteller who asks great questions of himself as well as his subjects,” Karp said. “I'm confident that a lot of readers are going to want to take this journey along with him.”
Karp added that they weren’t planning to announce the book until a publication date was set, but Politico asked and Karp said he decided to answer. A date in 2015 will be announced in the future.
“Let me emphasize that this book has always been intended as an exploration of an aspect of David's life that viewers rarely see in his journalistic work,” Karp told Politico. “The book was never intended as a memoir about his career. That objective hasn't changed and will not change. This book will be about the inner spiritual journey many of us take in our lives.”
Gregory has not spoken publicly about what happened at “Meet the Press,” but sent out tweets after his departure wishing his NBC family well. He had been on the show since 2008. The
New York Daily News reported that the network didn’t want to allow Gregory to finish a final show because they didn’t want another “Ann Curry moment” on their hands.
When Curry left the "Today" show, her weepy monologue inspired sympathy for how NBC handled her departure.
Politico said Gregory will also be taking speaking engagements now that he has left "Meet the Press."
