Deion Sanders Fired From School After Alleged Assault on Official

Deion Sanders was fired and ties with the charter school he co-founded were severed after the NFL Hall of Famer admitted to getting into a confrontation with but denied assaulting a head official.

Prime Prep Academy in Dallas posted a news release on their website announcing Sanders would no longer work for the school where he is the football coach and served as "an ambassador and employee of the school since its establishment."

"On behalf of the board of directors of Uplift Fort Worth, CDC, the governing body for Prime Prep Academy, I write in support of the decision to end the relationship between Prime Prep Academy and Mr. Deion Sanders," T. Christopher Lewis, chairman of the board of directors, said in a statement.

The school didn't give a reason for firing him.

DallasNews.com reported that Prime Prep Chief Financial Officer Kevin Jefferson said he was assaulted by Sanders during a Wednesday meeting that included other teachers and administrators. Jefferson said they had a disagreement over the fact that some student-athletes weren't doing well academically.

"He walked back to the back of the classroom to where I was sitting in a desk," Jefferson told DallasNews.com. "As he got closer to me, I stood up because he was kind of standing over me and he just kind of kept talking to me and at me and then he just grabbed me by my throat and kind of threw me to the ground. Some people had to get him off of me."

Jefferson said he went to the hospital for a checkup and is looking into taking legal action.

Sanders acknowledged the confrontation, and defended himself.

"Mr. Jefferson was not beat down," Sanders told Dallas TV station WFAA earlier this week. "He was not beat up. He was not hit. He was none of that. Mr. Jefferson and I got into a confrontation about the welfare of these kids. And we'll get into another one. Until you start taking care of these kids, I'm going to be on a rampage."
