Dennis Quaid Meltdown Was Fake After All; Prank Cooked Up by Funny or Die

By    |   Thursday, 16 April 2015 11:12 AM EDT

Dennis Quaid's on-set meltdown video, ostensibly taken in secret by a stage hand and uploaded to YouTube this week, was all part of an elaborate setup concocted by FunnyOrDie.com.

The comedy website tweeted Wednesday that it had finally uncovered the truth, and linked to a new video.

The scripted scene soon explained away all the seemingly horrible things Quaid shouted at his camera crew and set hands.

For instance, when the 61-year-old actor ranted that "Dopey the Dick" was ruining his ability to concentrate, he wasn't just hurling invective. Instead, he was describing quite literally a man in a penis costume, as the new video shows.

Elsewhere, when he yelled, "This is the most unprofessional set I have ever been on! This is horse s**t," Quaid had indeed stepped in equine droppings left by an on-set horse whose presence remains unexplained.

The clip went on like this, luring the audience down the garden path over and over.

The elaborate prank seems to have been pulled off successfully, although many suspected from the beginning that it was all a ruse — the original rant video was just too perfectly scandalous to believe. Sensing a hoax, some pointed the finger at known prankster Jimmy Kimmel, however the show host denied any involvement on Tuesday.
