A photo of a dog that looks like a bear cub has been such an online sensation that a BuzzFeed writer finally tracked down the animal's owner and asked her to clear the air: Is it a dog or a bear?
Turns out, "Bounce" is a pomeranian mix.
BuzzFeed reporter Rachel Zarrell said she posted a photo of the unusual looking dog on her Instagram page trying to determine what it was. She said she received a wide range of responses.
Zarrell said the photo was originally posted by a Reddit user with the caption "Somebody brought this bear into doggie day care." The guessing game started online shortly afterward.
"Well, this situation isn't too bad because it involves an insanely adorable animal," said
E! News writer Jenna Mullins. "So while you might fight with someone over the photo, at least you'll be fighting over a face that you just want to squeeze and pinch and kiss and smoosh. But depending on who you believe, that face could also bite your arm off, so be wary."
Zarrell updated her BuzzFeed post Monday, saying the dog's owner Elizabeth Maguyon stepped forward to say that the critter, named Bounce, is a pomeranian mix. The photo was taken at the West Nashville boarder The Dog Spot, owner Chad Baker told BuzzFeed.
Dog Spot employee Ryan Horn told the website he originally sent a texted photo of the dog to friends and joked that it was a bear.
"One friend, Lanier Basenberg, shared the photo to Reddit…and it just took off from there," Horn told BuzzFeed.
DogTime.com describes pomeranians as descendants of large sled dogs that are "compact, active, and capable of competing in agility and obedience or simply being a family friend."
