Former police officer Drew Peterson, already serving time for killing his third wife, is being charged with putting a hit out on the prosecutor who sent him to prison.
Peterson, who isn’t eligible for parole for his wife’s murder until 2047 at age 93, allegedly tried to hire someone to murder James Glasgow, Will County State Attorney.
Peterson was charged with one count of solicitation of murder for hire and one count of solicitation of murder.
In 2012, Peterson was convicted by jury of killing his wife, Kathleen Savio, while the two were in the middle of a divorce. Although her death by drowning in a bathtub wasn’t initially investigated as a crime, the case was reopened when Peterson’s fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, disappeared in 2007.
The homicide case made headlines partially because it was one of the first in Illinois to use hearsay evidence to garner a conviction, the Mail said.
In addition, Peterson’s cocky attitude as the disappearance of his fourth wife was investigated made the news.
"Before his 2009 arrest, the glib, cocky Peterson seemed to taunt authorities, suggesting a 'Win a Date With Drew Contest' and then, after his arrest, 'Win a Conjugal Visit With Drew Contest,'"
the Daily Mail wrote.
Peterson wrote in 2013 to his attorneys about how awful prison is and how he’s fearful he’ll be killed there.
"I’m in a cell the size of a broom closet, peeling paint, rusting fixtures, I have no TV or anything and I haven’t been out since I got here,” the Mail quoted one letter. “Prison is all the nightmarish things that one would think."
