Beardless Duck Dynasty Brother: Alan Robertson Joins Reality Show Cast

By    |   Thursday, 27 June 2013 08:01 PM EDT

A Beardless Duck Dynasty brother? Say it ain't so. But sure enough, A&E’s huge reality TV hit "Duck Dynasty" is getting a new beardless face — as Alan Robertson takes a bigger role on the show with his brothers and family.

"Duck Dynasty" follows a Louisiana family of backwoods millionaires that found its fortune from Duck Commander, a company it created to make various products for duck hunters, including a popular duck call called Duck Commander. All the men in the family who are shown in the series are known for their long beards.

Until now.

Clean-shaven, suit-wearing, 47-year-old Alan Robertson, the oldest of Phil and Kay’s four sons, is finally joining the series in Season 4 starting in August.

"The beards are so iconic," he told the New York Post. "All this time I’ve been flying under the radar; I can go to Starbucks and get Mama coffee."

That’s going to change. The final episode for Season 3 drew a jaw-dropping 9.6 million viewers. The show’s official Twitter account, @DuckDynastyAE, has more than 840,000 followers.

Alan Robertson, who had been preaching full-time at a Louisiana church, decided to join the show so his message can reach a wider audience, Yahoo! TV reported.

"Because of my association with the show, I’ll get to minister to a lot more people,” he told Yahoo!.

The show routinely includes scenes exhibiting time-honored American values that are seamlessly woven into many of the episodes, including fervent faith, family loyalty, dedication to the work ethic, and valuing of our constitutional rights — Second Amendment rights in particular.

"Duck Dynasty" is helping A+E Networks move toward the front of the pack among networks, along with History's "Vikings" and "Pawn Stars." All three were among the most-watched cable shows in recent Nielsen ratings, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Time will tell how adding a beardless brother will affect that success.
