Those anticipating the upcoming "Dumb and Dumber To" with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels will find plenty of throwbacks to the original 1994 comedy in the newly released trailer for the sequel film, which premiered this week on Jimmy Fallon's "The Tonight Show."

Set 20 years after the events of the original "Dumb and Dumber," the sequel stars Carrey and Daniels in their iconic roles as dimwitted best friends Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne.

The trailer reveals that Lloyd has been institutionalized for the past 20 years, although we learn he was faking it in order to pull an elaborate prank on Harry. After reteaming up, Harry learns he has a long-lost daughter that Lloyd may have the hots for, and the two appear to get involved in plenty of "dumb" hijinks.

Not much has changed for Christmas and Dunne, from their home to the sheepdog van they drive.

"Harry and Lloyd have the same old apartment, their outfits are almost identical to the ones they wore in the original and, if the trailer is any indication, things are about to get just as dumb, to," wrote The Huffington Post's Bill Bradley.

The Farrelly Brothers and "Dumb and Dumber" producers hope to recreate the same success of the original, whichThe Hollywood Reporter wrote was made with just $17 million and grossed more than $247 million at the box office.

Despite the publicity around the sequel, Forbes' Scott Mendelson said he was not impressed with the first sneak peek.

"Putting aside the discussion of how weirdly not-funny the above trailer is, the question becomes, to the extent that it matters, is 'Dumb and Dumber' really some kind of antique comedy classic, or does the current generation of film nerds see it through the rose-colored glasses of nostalgia because they saw it as children?" Mendelson questioned.

Fans, though, expressed their excitement over the new trailer on Twitter.

"Dumb and Dumber To" hits theaters November 14.
