Elisabeth Hasselbeck was absent from "Fox & Friends" on Wednesday, with her co-hosts making a surprising announcement that she had undergone surgery, and would be taking a few weeks off.

"In case you were wondering where Elisabeth is today and this week, well, she had some surgery yesterday and she's going to be out for a couple of weeks," said co-host Steve Doocy. "But she's doing just fine, she's on the mend."

"As you know if you watch the show, she is strong, she is tough and a better athlete than me," said Brian Kilmeade. "We heard from her last night and she said she is feeling good. So, in a short time, she'll be back on the set. Until then, we get a chance to work with wonderful people like Kimberly."

Kimberly Guilfoyle, host of Fox News' "The Five," was sitting in for Hasselbeck.

"I'm looking forward to seeing if I'm up to the task," she announced.

A Fox News spokesperson confirmed to the The Wrap that Hasselbeck had undergone surgery, stating only that "Elisabeth has asked for all to respect her wishes for privacy in regards to further details at this time."

Deadline Hollywood noted that Hasselbeck revealed in 2009 that she suffers from celiac disease when she released her book "The G-Free Diet: A Gluten-Free Survival Guide." It is unknown if the surgery was related to celiac, however.

Hasselbeck is usually an active user of Twitter, but her timeline has been silent since her last tweet on October 10.
