Eminem and singer Lana Del Rey probably won't be seen out on a date any time soon after the rapper threatened to punch her in the face "like Ray Rice" – or at least said so in the lyrics of his new rap video that plays off the domestic violence case involving the former NFL running back.

Eminem, known for providing shock value in his lyrics and videos, didn't disappoint fans in his freestyle video "Shady CXPHER" that has garnered nearly a million views since it was posted on YouTube Monday.

While Del Rey isn't the only celebrity skewered in the video, it's the rapper's treatment of domestic violence that has caught many by surprise, noted USA Today's Chris Strauss.

According to the USA Today blog "For the Win," Eminem's diddy that includes Del Rey goes like this:

"But I may fight for gay rights, especially if the (expletive) is more of a knockout than Janay Rice/ Play nice? (Expletive) I'll punch Lana Del Rey right in the face twice, like Ray Rice in broad daylight in the plain sight of the elevator surveillance/ 'Til her head is banging on the railing, then celebrate with the Ravens."

Maybe it won't win Eminem another Grammy or BET Award, but Strauss said that's not an endorsement the NFL was looking for either.

"The fallout from the NFL's domestic abuse scandal from earlier this season has clearly reverberated well beyond sports," Strauss wrote. "In many instances, that's been a positive, opening a dialogue on ways to prevent violence against women, examining root causes and encouraging victims to speak out about their experiences. This is not one of those moments."

Britt Julious of The Guardian wrote that Eminem remains a powerful force in the music industry because his fans accept and even expect him to churn out the same kind of lyrics time again.

"We pretend to be shocked by his words, and yet the world remains as misogynistic as ever," Julious wrote on Tuesday. "He causes temporary controversy until we move on to something else, forgetting why we were upset in the first place. As a method of inserting himself into the current cultural conversations surrounding women (and in particular, women in music), attacking women in his singles offers instant selling publicity."

Rapper Azealia Banks came to Del Rey's defense, according to Us Weekly, posting on Twitter Monday, "@LanaDelRey tell him to go back to his trailer park and eat his microwave hotpocket dinner and suck on his sisters (bleep)."
