ESPN anchor Britt McHenry suggested in a now-deleted tweet that she was fired from the network for being "openly conservative."

McHenry was one of the approximately 100 anchors and broadcasters laid off by ESPN in May when the network embarked on a cost-cutting measure as subscribers declined and expenses increased.

While McHenry didn’t say anything about her politics playing a role at the time, she commented Monday, The Washington Post reported, on an article by columnist Clay Travis in a way that suggested she believed her conservatism caused her to lose the job. Travis’s article was headlined “ESPN Says They Aren’t Liberal Because Hank Williams Jr. Sings MNF Open,” and McHenry tweeted in response, “I mean I’ve been openly Conservative... look how that ended up.” The tweet was later deleted.

McHenry had tweeted in support of Neil Gorsuch’s Supreme Court nomination and wrote a piece for her Tumblr in March agreeing with U.S. Soccer’s decision to require men’s and women’s team members to stand up for the national anthem.

ESPN did retain a few conservatives in its lineup, including Linda Cohn and Sage Steele, the Post noted.

McHenry has not found a new position since being let go by ESPN in April, according to the New York Post. She had been a correspondent for the network on a few different shows, including “Sportscenter” and “NFL Live.”

McHenry, who is from New Jersey, was caught on camera in 2015 verbally assaulting a towing company employee and was suspended by ESPN for a week over the incident. She later apologized at length for the incident.
