The star of the network's "Giada at Home" series left the studio to receive medical attention as the show went to a commercial.
"She seemed to go pale and got very quiet putting pressure on it and whispering to Ina that it was bad,"
an eyewitness told RadarOnline.com. "She looked like she was about to faint."
De Laurentiis posted photos of the bloody injured finger after the accident and the bandaged digit on Instagram.
De Laurentiis returned the program 15 minutes later and said an on-set medic got the bleeding to stop with cold compressions and pressure.
The live snafu garnered a variety of responses on Twitter.
De Laurentiis is one of the network's long time stars who earned an Emmy award for outstanding lifestyle host for her show "Everyday Italian."
Her travel series, "Giada's Weekend Getaways," started in January 2007, in which De Laurentiis features notable restaurants and foodie activities around the country.
