A Tennessee girl got into Yale University after penning an essay on Papa John's pizza.
While her humorous essay about her love for Papa John's was a winner for Yale admissions, Carolina Williams, of Brentwood, Tennessee, instead opted to get her pizza delivered at Auburn University, AL.com reported.
While Williams, a member of the National Honor Society, had great grades at Ravenwood High School, it was her love for ordering pizza that got the 18-year-old noticed. In a portion of the Yale application that asked for a 200-word application essay about something you love to do, Williams opted not to put down volunteer work or helping at her church, but her love for pizza, noted the website.
"Accepting those warm cardboard boxes at my front door is second nature to me, but I will always love ordering pizza because of the way eight slices of something so ordinary are able to evoke feelings of independence, consolation and joy," Williams wrote according to AL.com.
One Yale admissions officer wrote Williams a note that said: "As a fellow lover of pizza, I laughed out loud (then ordered pizza) after reading your application" according to The Tennessean.
Williams tweeted about her acceptance letter and the fact that Yale officials pointed out her pizza essay on May 9.
That made her an Internet sensation, with media requests from around the country, noted AL.com.
But Yale will not get its pizza-loving honors student. Williams in the end opted to attend Auburn University after she received the school's presidential scholarship of $72,000 over four years, wrote AL.com.
She told the Tennessean that she plans to major in business and minor in economics with plans to be the chief executive officer of a company someday. She told AL.com that Auburn had another advantage.
"That's why I'm so excited about Auburn because they have a Papa Johns and a Chick-fil-A on campus," Williams told the website.
