Danielle Josey Davis refused to take her husband off of life support following a motorcycle accident that left him in a coma, and then he awoke.
Matt Davis doesn’t remember dating or marrying his wife before his 2010 accident, but recently
told ABC News "I'm sure glad I married her." They had only been married for seven months at the time of the accident.
Doctors said there was a 90 percent chance he would never wake up, but Danielle fought to keep him on life support, get him into rehab, and eventually take him home to her mother’s house, ABC News reported.
One day he reached out for a toy motorcycle that Danielle held out to him. Then he asked for his favorite food, a buffalo chicken wrap from Cheddar’s, after being asked what he wanted to eat.
"We all whipped around because we all knew what he said," Danielle said.
Matt first opened his eyes the day after
Danielle decided not to take him off of life support, she wrote on her blog.
She wrote about the ordeal on her GoFundMe page: “We noticed he was trying to talk, more like whisper and one day I put his hat in his hand, told him to put it on his head. After telling him multiple times he gasps out, ‘I'm trying!’ It was the greatest thing I've ever heard!”
They have increased their fund-raising goal to $104,000 to pay for five years of therapy and living expenses.
“When he is walking and running we're doing a marathon and you're all invited to walk and run beside him just like you are now!” Danielle wrote on the page.
