Walmart preempted Apple's iPhone 5C pre-order process on Friday with an announcement earlier this week that it would be offering discounts on the new smartphone.
Walmart will be selling the 16-gigabyte versions of the iPhone 5C at $79, which is $20 cheaper than its retail price of $99 that is being offered on Apple's website as well as other retailers. The Walmart offer also includes a two-year contract from AT&T, Verizon or Sprint,
the Los Angeles Times reported.
Similarly, the iPhone 5S, the more expensive alternative of Apple's new smartphone, will be offered at $189 at Walmart, $10 cheaper than its regular price from Apple and various carriers.

According to Walmart, Apple has not sold the new iPhones at a discounted rate to the world's largest retailer, which means it has likely decided to take a smaller profit as a tradeoff for increased sales.
"Because of our size and scale and what we're able to do, we're able to provide these prices," Walmart spokeswoman Sarah McKinney told the Los Angeles Times.
Walmart began accepting in-store pre-orders on Friday, with a scheduled in-store pick up for Sept. 20. According to Walmart, all pre-orders must be picked up by Sept. 25.
Additionally, some 3,600 participating Walmart and Sam's Club locations across the country are also offering consumers a trade-in option, beginning Sept. 21, in which they can bring in old smartphones and receive a store credit for between $50 and $300, which can be used toward purchasing newer iPhone versions,
PCMag.com reported.
The world's largest retailer will also be selling off any remaining stock of the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 for $0.97 and $0.10 respectively,
PCMag.com notes.
The iPhone 5C and costlier 5S model was introduced to the public with much fanfare on Tuesday.

Among the features being offered with the top-of-the-line 5S model is
a fingerprint sensor to use as a security measure in place of passcodes.
Aside from the pre-order option, both models will be on sale on Sept. 20 across the U.S., as well as in Australia, China, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore and United Kingdom.
