Jake Lloyd, best known to science fiction fans as Anakin Skywalker in "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace," was arrested after leading police in South Carolina on a high-speed car chase.
Lloyd, 26, who was arrested under the name of Jake Broadbent, was nabbed by authorities Wednesday in Colleton County and charged with reckless driving, failure to stop for blue lights, resisting arrest and driving without a license,
noted the Post and Courier.
The 20-minute chase started southbound on Interstate 95 in Charleston County after Lloyd drove into opposite traffic.
"On Wednesday afternoon, around 1:30 p.m., we received a call from the Charleston County office," a Colleton County spokesman told
E! News, adding that Lloyd's car at times was going more than 100 mph.
"We were told a car had crossed over county lines into our county, Colleton County. The car was speeding and passed over double yellow lines. We were able to find the car that matched the description and the chase ensued," said the spokesman.
Lloyd lost control of his Nissan compact, left the freeway, drove through a fence and onto frontage road and he kept on fleeing, said Colleton County sheriff's Sgt. Kyle Strickland told the Post and Courier.
The chase ended when Lloyd hit several trees in some woods.
"He resisted arrest and once handcuffed, we had trouble getting information out of him. He told police his name was Jake Broadbent. He was quiet and didn't say a lot. He was alone," an officer told ET.
Lloyd played the 9-year-old slave boy who gres up to become Darth Vader in the 1999 "The Phantom Menace," the first of three prequel movies to the original "Star Wars" franchise. The movie would go on to make $1.02 billion in ticket sales worldwide,
according to Box Office Mojo.
Us Weekly said Lloyd was last in front of cameras for the 2005 drama "Madison," starring Jim Caviezel and Mary McCormack.
