Jay Feely had some harsh words for Tim Tebow this week when the former NFL kicker called the newly signed Philadelphia Eagle "the single worst quarterback I ever saw."

Tebow, the former Heisman Trophy winner who led the Florida Gators to a national championship and the Denver Broncos to the playoffs, has been a lightning rod for criticism because of his inaccuracy as a passer and, some believe, because of his strong Christian faith.

So when sports personality Jim Rome brought up Eagles coach Chip Kelly's move to sign Tebow on "Jim Rome on Showtime" telecast this week, Feely unloaded.

"He's such a dichotomy for me," Feely, a former kicker for the Arizona Cardinals and several other teams, said. "Because I really respect the person, the man, the things that he believes in and the things he does off the field. He was the single worst quarterback I ever saw in my career in the NFL."

"I watched him one day . . . I sat and watched him do routes on air with (coach) Ken Whisenhunt as we were playing the Broncos," he continued. "And routes on air, there's no (defensive backs), you know exactly what he's going to run, there's no pass rush. He had like 13 incompletions on routes on air. Jim, you and I could go out and do routes on air and we would complete most of our passes."

Over three NFL seasons, Tebow completed 47.9 percent of his passes (173-361) for 17 touchdowns against nine interceptions, in a league where 60 percent is considered the norm for successful quarterbacks.

Tebow has been working with throwing guru Tom House, who has trained with Tom Brady and Drew Brees, for months to improve his accuracy, and his results were apparently good enough for the Eagles to sign him to a one-year contract this week, according to Fox Sports.

Pat McAfee, the punter for the Indianapolis Colts, took a shot at Feely's Tebow assessment on Twitter Wednesday.

Feely, though, wasted little time in responding, refusing to back down from his Tebow comments.
