Jeff Glor, current lead anchor of CBSN streaming news service, will be the new host of "CBS Evening News."
Glor, who is 42, will take over anchor duties over the next few weeks from Anthony Mason, the interim anchor after the departure of Scott Pelley. Mason will remain a senior correspondent for the network and co-host of "CBS This Morning: Saturday."
Glor has been with CBS for 10 years and reported on major stories such as the Sandy Hook masscre and the Boston Marathon bombing. He won an Emmy in 2011 for a segment on Braddock, Pennsylvania, for “CBS Sunday Morning.” Most recently, Glor reported from the field for Hurricane Irma and from the studio on the Las Vegas attack.
“Jeff is a thoughtful, probing journalist with the versatility to anchor in any circumstance — from daily reporting to the most significant events of our time,” CBS News President David Rhodes said when announcing the change Wednesday, CBS News reported.
“CBS News has an extraordinary history that is meaningful to so many,” Glor said, CBS reported. “I am beyond grateful to continue to play a role in its future.”
“CBS Evening News” is the longest-running evening newscast in the country.
Glor’s colleagues and fans took to Twitter to congratulate him on the promotion.
