Jim Carrey Attacks Fox News as 'Media Colostomy Bag'

By    |   Monday, 01 April 2013 08:07 AM EDT

One week after his anti-gun parody "Cold Dead Hand" actor Jim Carrey turned his focus to Fox News responding to a network host's criticism of his position on the issue by calling the station "a media colostomy bag."

"Since I released my 'Cold Dead Hand' video on Funny or Die this week, I have watched Fux News rant, rave, bare its fangs and viciously slander me because of my stand against large magazines and assault rifles," Carrey wrote in a statement to Fox News on Friday.

"I would take them to task legally if I felt they were worth my time or that anyone with a brain in their head could actually fall for such irresponsible buffoonery."

Carrey continued, "In my opinion Fux News is a last resort for kinda-sorta-almost-journalists whose options have been severely limited by their extreme and intolerant views; a media colostomy bag that has begun to burst at the seams and should be emptied before it becomes a public health issue."

The Canadian-born Carrey, 51, was reacting to remarks made by Fox News' Greg Gutfeld, 48, who cohosts the daily political roundtable "The Five" and hosts the 3 a.m. satirical talk show "Red Eye w/Greg Gutfeld."

Last Monday, Gutfeld, a self-described Libertarian, reacted to Carrey's "Cold Dead Hand" video posting on his Twitter page, "Would @jimcarrey ever do a video mocking gangs for all the gun-related homicides? No. his cowardly desire for acceptance prevents it."

In the Hee Haw-style parody "Cold Dead Hand," Carrey mocks the late Hollywood legend Charlton Heston for his pro Second Amendment stance and implies that gun advocacy is backward.

Minutes after his initial post, Gutfeld tweets, "@Jimcarrey is an esteem vulture; using issues to fill his bottomless pit of insecurity. He's as edgy as a frisbee."

Introducing the video to his Twitter followers the previous Sunday, Carrey wrote: "'Cold Dead Hand' is abt u heartless motherf%ckers unwilling 2 bend 4 the safety of our kids.Sorry if you're offended…"

Gutfeld wasn’t the only critic of Carrey's parody.

The libertarian Reason TV released a satirical video Thursday countering Carrey's parody entitled "Remy: Jim Carrey's Cold Dead Hand - A Rebuttal."

In the video, the libertarian rapper Remy mimic's Carrey's Western cowboy theme while pointing out the inconsistencies between the comedian's anti-gun stance and his movie roles that appear to embrace gun violence. ()
