Johnny Depp Spent $50K on Jewelry Christmas Gift for Girlfriend: Report

By    |   Friday, 27 December 2013 05:33 PM EST

Johnny Depp reportedly spent nearly $50,000 this Christmas on jewelry for girlfriend Amber Heard.

The 50-year-old star of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films purchased "diamond drop earrings set in platinum" from jeweler Neil Lane, then completed the set with a matching necklace, a source told Life & Style magazine, adding, "He said they were for Christmas."

Depp met Heard, 27, in 2011 while filming "The Rum Diary." Depp and Vanessa Paradis ended their 14-year relationship in 2012. They have two children.

Heard came out as bisexual in 2010. She split up with girlfriend Tasya van Ree shortly before entering a relationship with Depp.

In the December issue of Company magazine, she gushed about Depp.

"It is really hard when you spend your life living out of a suitcase. But it really does weed out superficial people — if someone is still with you after the second movie then they're probably a good one! I like to trust people in general — it's the southern girl in me."

Depp remains one of Hollywood's enduring leading men. In addition to the "Pirates" films, Depp has starred in "Edward Scissorhands," "Ed Wood," "Donnie Brasco," "Chocolat" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."

His latest film, "Transcendence," opens April 18, 2014. In the science-fiction thriller, he plays a terminally ill scientist who downloads his body into a computer, and then gains unstoppable power.
