Katy Perry contemplated suicide shortly after comedian Russell Brand divorced her in 2011,
the pop star revealed in the latest issue of Billboard magazine.
Perry, who's preparing for the October release of her third studio album "Prism," admitted that she was in a dark place following the end of her 14-month marriage to Brand in 2011. She says writing songs for her new album helped her get through the rough time.
"That song ['Grace of God'] is evident of how tough it really was at a certain point. I asked myself, 'Do I want to endure? Should I continue living?'" she told Billboard. "All the songs are real-life moments. I can only write autobiographically. I put all the evidence in the music. I tell my fans if they want to know the real truth about stuff, just listen to the songs."

In a June interview with Vogue magazine, Perry opened up about her divorce for the first time, saying Brand dumped her via text message.
"[Brand is] a very smart man, a magical man and I was in love with him when I married him," she said. "Let's just say I haven't heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011."
The 28-year-old "Roar" singer also dished on her new boyfriend — singer John Mayer.
"He literally is a genius, as is evident from his songwriting," she told Billboard. "I always tell him, 'Darling, you know I'm going to have to give your mind to science after you've passed, because we're going to have to understand how all these sparks work.'"
